What is a Soroptimist?

Soroptimist an international service organization devoted to the betterment of women.

The organization takes its name from Greek words:

"Soro" = Women; "Optimist" = Best for

The Soroptimist mission is to improve the lives of women and girls
in local communities and worldwide.

SI of Noyo Sunrise is one of 2 Soroptimist clubs on the Mendocino Coast. Our club is for members that prefer to start their meetings in the morning. The other club is SI of Fort Bragg, a lunch club. Altogether there are 53 clubs in the Region; thousands in North America. SI is an international organization, with headquarters in the United Kingdom, and over 80 thousand members worldwide. Soroptimist International (SI) - is the world's largest classified volunteer service organization for women in business, management, and the professions.

Noyo Sunrise is the weekly 'BREAKFAST CLUB' for women who prefer to meet with their club before going to work or exercise--starts their Tuesday just right. There is an afterwork social on months with a 5th Tues at a clubmember's home.

Noyo Sunrise members are from various backgrounds and interests, including teaching, medical professions, private businesses, forestry, arts and crafts, and home supply.

BEING A SOROPTIMIST MEANS MANY THINGS

  • Soroptimists are committed to the mission of making a difference in the lives of women and girls - in their communities, their countries, and throughout the world.

  • Soroptimists are willing to give their time and talent to raise funds and provide service to others in their communities.

  • Soroptimists are persons of action - not someone who waits for others to improve the lives of those less fortunate.
